What Are the Classic Symptoms of Prostatitis?

Prostatitis is generally quite painful, which is typically what will send a man in to see Dr. David L. Peters before any additional symptoms occur. This pain is most often noticed during urination, ejaculation, or defecation.

If the infection is bacterial, most men will experience flu-like symptoms as a result of prostatitis. Another common symptom of prostatitis is bloody or cloudy urine.

How is Prostatitis Treated by Dr. David L. Peters?

After Dr. Peters has diagnosed a patient with prostatitis using standard procedure that includes a prostate exam and additional imaging tests, they will begin to discuss treatment options for the patient’s particular type of prostatitis.

If the prostatitis is indeed caused by a bacterial infection then antibiotics should be able to effectively treat the condition in a short amount of time. Unfortunately, it is not always easy to find a direct cause associated with prostatitis.

Individuals with prostatitis that is not caused by an infection are typically recommended to try a combination of medications and lifestyle changes. Most medications will aim to relax the muscles of the prostate, though antidepressants and anti-inflammatories are also frequently prescribed to help ease the patient’s discomfort. Avoidance of spicy foods, caffeine, and alcohol have also proven to be effective in reducing pain caused by chronic nonbacterial prostatitis.
